Author's Notes

This book was 15 to 20 years in the making and went through several titles and formats before finally making it into print. All pilots keep a logbook of their flying time and that was the original title for this book - The Logbook. I actually started on a totally different type of book called Highways in the Sky at one time, but abandoned that project.

Essentially, I wanted to write a book that would entertain and educate people interested in aviation and perhaps spark an interest in some who have yet to discover the adventure that lies in becoming a pilot. I've wanted to be a pilot as far back as I can remember and started reading about it somewhere around the 6th or 7th grade.

I picked stories that were varied in nature and tried to spread them out over a variety of different experience levels and environments. In our logbooks, we only have a small space to write, so the notes were very cryptic when I went back to refresh my memory. Fortunately, I started fleshing out the stories many years ago when most of them were still pretty fresh.

Some of these adventures a pretty hairy. That happens when you fly a lot, but that's why we train for emergency situations. I've been well-trained and so have handled what's been thrown at me, acknowledging that there were a few times Angels must have been in the picture.

Be sure and check out the Excerpts page to see if you like the writing. If so, I hope you'll buy the book.
